Children in Year 6 had a very hands-on morning learning how to keep themselves and others safe in a range of circumstances such as around electricity, in case of a fire, around water and by railway lines. They were given plenty of advice about keeping safe on the road, around strangers, alcohol and on a farm. All in all, it was an action-packed, educational and exciting experience.

On Tuesday, Years 3 and 4 enjoyed a fantastic visit to Druisilla's Zoo. We were lucky with the weather and saw some really unusual animals ranging from anteaters to wild bearcats! Year 4 has been working hard in English and Geography, thinking about Zoos and captivity versus conservation. It has been very thought provoking and we had a conservation workshop at the Zoo. Our keeper was very impressed with our knowledge about zoos and even allowed us to stroke a milk snake called 'Sully' and a chinchilla called 'John'.

The Foundation Stage Assembly celebrated the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and Jesus’ love for us all. This is a special prayer from our Assembly. Dear God, Thank you for looking after our school. Thank you for loving each and every one of us here. Help us to learn, play and share together, so that the wonderful world you have made becomes more beautiful every day. Amen

Way back in the Autumn Term the children in Year 6 were learning about how Christians around the world speak up for justice and that justice starts with each one of us. As part of their research, the children were asked to find out more about a variety of organisations including Tearfund. Madeleine G heard about 'Toilet Twinning' in church and she brought a leaflet into school. She suggested that we raise money for the charity. The class thought it was a great idea and donated their own money. Toilet Twinning funds the work of international relief and development agency Tearfund who use donations to provide clean water, basic sanitation, and hygiene education to the most needy around the world. Altogether we raised a fantastic: £90.70 and we have just received this wonderful certificate. Well done Year 6.

Year 1 presented us with a most beautiful assembly this morning on the theme of Pentecost, reflecting on the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Showing those gifts of clear speech, patience, self –control, love and, most definitely, joy the children used words, dance, prayer and song to remind us that God is with us always and we can share the Good News in so many ways. Thank you Year 1!

During our Science lessons this term we have been looking at plants and what they require to grow well. We have worked in threes, each group looking at different requirements like water, air, space, warmth, soil and light. As you can see from the photographs, some of these are particularly vital to the plant's health! In our Art lessons we have linked our learning in Science and have been looking at plants. We have drawn some in watercolour pencils, sculpted peppers from clay and drawn them in charcoal too.

As anticipated, our Y6 pupils enjoyed a fabulous and sunny activities weekend at Bowles to celebrate the end of KS2 SATs and their time together at Sacred Heart School. Everyone had the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone and try something new, surprising themselves and their friends at times with what they could achieve. It was a pleasure to spend this special time with the children and fortunately for all of us, Half term is just around the corner…. time to recharge the batteries and catch up on some lost sleep!

Pupils and staff at Sacred Heart School in Wadhurst started the wedding celebrations early with a street party picnic in the sunshine under the amused gaze of a very royal visitor indeed! Pupils made and wore special hats for the occasion and all send their very best wishes to Prince Harry and Meghan.

On a (thankfully) dry Thursday morning children and staff were put through their paces running the Daily Mile on our new track. We aimed to raise £100 to support the important work of WaterAid and will announce the final figure next week. Thanks to Mrs Jarman and Mrs Payne who prepared the Watermelons and to School Council who opened proceedings.

We have had a very busy week in Year 6: not only have we started rehearsing in earnest for the end of year musical but we were able to take part in a mock trial. Mrs Little, a school governor, is a barrister. She came to visit us to explain what happens in a trial and we role-played the various parts.
