As part of our Eat Better, Start Better program, we invited parents to school to cook with their children. We first learnt a little about portion sizes and also making healthy choices. We learnt about our diets and the expectations of having 5 portions of fruit and vegetables in our diet. Then we made a special pitta pocket and carrot salad, along with a pattern fruit kebab. Dawn from Zebedees also visited us this week to talk about healthy eating and the children tasted pomegranate, green smoothie and humous crisps. They then made rainbow pizzas with tomatoes, onions, sweetcorn, peppers and cheese. Delicious!

There can be few of us whose lives have not been touched in some measure by cancer. This was evident in the spirit of generosity and goodwill at this morning’s event which enabled us, in a small way, to contribute to the battle against this disease. Donations so far total £309.00 and we are still able to accept donations up to the end of next week (see box in the office). A BIG thank you!

The sun shone all day for our whole school sports. A variety of track and field events gave children a chance to shine in different disciplines. Thanks to the PTA for providing the refreshments and to Mrs Overy and Mrs HT for masterminding the day’s activities, assisted throughout by our Year 6 pupils.

Sacred Heart School Chess Team came back this week with an incredible achievement of 3rd place in the Primary Cup Division One Finals. This means we are the 3rd best school at chess in the whole of Sussex! An amazing achievement for a small school – very well done!

Children in Year 6 had a very hands-on morning learning how to keep themselves and others safe in a range of circumstances such as around electricity, in case of a fire, around water and by railway lines. They were given plenty of advice about keeping safe on the road, around strangers, alcohol and on a farm. All in all, it was an action-packed, educational and exciting experience.

On Tuesday, Years 3 and 4 enjoyed a fantastic visit to Druisilla's Zoo. We were lucky with the weather and saw some really unusual animals ranging from anteaters to wild bearcats! Year 4 has been working hard in English and Geography, thinking about Zoos and captivity versus conservation. It has been very thought provoking and we had a conservation workshop at the Zoo. Our keeper was very impressed with our knowledge about zoos and even allowed us to stroke a milk snake called 'Sully' and a chinchilla called 'John'.
