Last Thursday, the whole of Sacred Heart School, from our Little Hearts in Nursery to Y6, took part in a History and Geography Day.
At our school, we believe that through studying History and Geography, children can develop an understanding of the World and its environments, as well as of how past societies and cultures were built and changed. This gives them a detailed picture of where we stand today.
The theme for the day was ‘The History and Geography of London’. All the children took part in various activities and in some fantastic group work. Some of the London bridges were recreated in the classroom, other famous landmarks were investigated and historical timelines of the city were drawn up. The children produced some wonderful sketches of London past and present, whilst researching their history and location. Mrs Collyer was very fortunate to receive a host of postcards from children visiting some of these landmarks!
Upper Key Stage 2 learnt about the London Underground and planned various journeys using the Underground map. The whole day proved to be a very successful and fun day and the children were given super opportunities to develop their historical and geographical knowledge and understanding of London whilst practising key skills.
The children then shared their experiences of the day and their work in assembly most enthusiastically and articulately. Well done Sacred Heart!
