She always strives to do her best and she goes above and beyond what is asked of her every time. She has gained a place at Tonbridge Girls Grammar School having achieved the highest mark possible in the 11+ but she has not rested on her laurels. She has made fantastic progress again this year academically. She is, of course….Orla.

Outstanding Achievement (For exceptional personal success) This award is not always given because it is reserved for those children who excel outside of school to an extremely high level, either nationally or internationally, so to award three children in one year is unprecedented. I ask all three to wait until I have talked about you all before you come to receive your awards.

The first of these children is a very able sportsman who has achieved to a high level with his swimming and in other sports. However, he also fences with Royal Tunbridge Wells Fencing Club and he is a member of British Fencing. In British fencing, the ranking officially starts in the U14 category, so technically he is not fencing at any standard, but there is an U12 category which means he is eligible to ‘officially’ fence. This has allowed him to fence both at county, regional and national level. He has also competed in one international event. So, aside from all of the technicalities, Lorenzo not only fences at county, regional and National level but has started his international journey.

The second recipient is competing nationally with his climbing. His most recent national competition was the Scottish Boulder cup in Edinburgh where he came 9th in his age group, competing against the best climbers in the UK. He has also recently come 1st in a rope competition in Birmingham and 3rd in bouldering in Nottingham in the Midlands Youth Climbing Series. The club Henry climbs for is Kent and Sussex climbing.

Our third recipient competes regionally and nationally. He is in the Kent and Sussex climbing team in Tunbridge Wells for bouldering (without ropes) and he trains with the most amazing coaches, Guy Davenport and Joe Breslin for lead climbing (with ropes) at White Spider in Surbiton. Guy is head coach of the White Spider squad and they have the best climbers in the country. Pip’s ultimate goal is to get into that squad! So, congratulations Lorenzo, Henry and Pip for your outstanding achievements.
