Everyone from Year 1 - Year 6 was delighted to welcome historian Juliet Nicolson (grandmother of Orlando, Gabriel and Imogen) who came to talk to us about The Coronation.

She shared some fascinating historical facts as well as some equally fascinating private insight into the traditions and importance of the day. Children were intrigued to see some gloves that were worn by ladies during the coronation of the late Queen Elizabeth II as well as a scale model of the Gold State Coach. Crowns were donned to calls of 'Vivat, vivat rex!' which are the words to be used in the ceremony tomorrow. We also learnt that Queen Camilla will wear comfortable shoes under her fine gowns and that Queen Elizabeth felt 'coach sick' on her long journey from Westminster Cathedral to Buckingham Palace after her coronation 70 years ago. Many thanks to Juliet for giving up her time to share her knowledge and for entertaining as well as informing us all about this momentous occasion.
