On Thursday 21st June, Sacred Heart Chess Team travelled to Brighton to play in the Primary Cup Finals.  We were in Division 1 which is the hardest group so we were up for some tough games.  The team was Elena (Y5), Oliver (Y4), Monty Z (Y5) and Monty B (Y4).

In the first round, we played Brighton College.  Everyone played their best but Brighton College were better.  In the end, it was 3½-½ to Brighton College.

We then played another team who had lost their round.  We were battling for 3rd and 4th place so we all tried our hardest.  Unfortunately, we lost two of the games.  After losing his Queen however, Monty Z fought back and, at the end of the round he and Elena had both won!  This meant that the score was 2 all because of the tie-break systems.  We won that round!  Overall we came 3rd which means that we are the 3rd best School at Chess in the whole of Sussex!

Congratulations to all of the team and thank you to Mr Anthony for organising, Mr Currah for driving and Brighton College for hosting, providing good and wonderful goodie bags!  An amazing achievement for a small School – very well done!
